ARTIST STATEMENT
Empathy and Apathy are some of the strongest emotions that allow us to navigate the world we live in. It’s
unavoidable- it is unfiltered- it is what allows us to be in the present.
Utilizing my foundations in Graphic design, and typography has allowed me to create work that emphasizes intimacy, focusing my vulnerable thoughts and shared experiences translated to “mantras & moments”, through executions of works that combine printmaking techniques and photographic imagery in tangible methods where the facilities are not accessible.
Recently, I have been using raw, organic elements to naturally dye paper that become substrates for these compositions where my innermost thoughts are pronounced on a public scale. Detaching from the traditional designer’s mindset has led me to produce more “imperfect work” allowing for more arbitrary production absent from the rigidity of design and vastly exploring organic elements of each composition.
Ty Nicholas Davis, also known as “Duality” is a Multidisiplinary Designer based out of Miami Beach, Florida. At an early age Ty attended Miami Arts Charter starting his footsteps towards persuing art as a full time practice.
In 2016 Ty Davis recieved a Merit award from the National Young Arts Foundation, from their master class program in photography.
From college onward Ty has dedicated his persuits towards Graphic Design, recieving a B.F.A from the Savannah College of Art and Design. (SCAD 20’)
Ty Davis Created the alias “Duality” in reference to his identity of being mixed race. Being both black and white, he uses the idea od duality to show the perspective of how opposites are within each other in our lives. By using a combination of photography and graphic design, he allows for a public display of intimacy in his works.
